In His Steps

We meet each Sunday in the basement at 10:30 am, immediately after services. This adult class was renamed a few years ago while Matt Sears was still the instructor/teacher. The format was changed several months ago to one of studying characters of the Bible. Characters from both Old and New Testaments are chosen by those attending the class. Each study has been somewhat different regarding the way we get to know each of these most amazing people.
This class leans heavily on class participation and with no time limit on how long each character is studied, we try to find answers for all the questions that are brought to light.
Adults of all ages are invited to join us in these studies for a joyful time of fellowship and learning more about the wonderful life our Saviour Jesus Christ has given us. Let us all try to walk "In His steps".
Sue and I look forward to seeing everyone of you Sunday Morning. Don Arndt

12 attended Sunday which is about average for our class. We are still studying Luke and have now gotten to chapter 19. We are really taking our time with this one and trying to answer all the questions that come up. The discussions have been great. I would have to say that "Luke" is being an in depth study. Don

I learn a lot in that class too Liz, every week! Thank you for your comment. For me,it is certainly a great class to be involved with.
This is a very good study. While looking at the "Works" of Luke, we really get a chance to enjoy what a meticulous and detailed man he was as he wrote so much history for us. After the book of Luke, we will study Luke's other great work, the book of Acts. See you all Sunday. Don

I just want to say that I enjoy In His Steps Class each week.
I really learn alot. I thought it interesting this week that Jesus healed the man with lepracy and then told him not to tell anyone. . . but word about this miracle spread rapidly. . .much like today. Thanks Don for teaching this class.

The class chose the Bible character Luke to study after we concluded the study of Mary, Mother of Jesus. While studying Luke, it was decided to not only look at Luke's life, but his works. So, we are going to read through the books of Luke and Acts. I'm sure will be there several weeks for some interesting discussions. See you Sunday, Don

We had 11 in attendance at Sunday school. We had 13 if you count Stacy and her new baby that came through so we could all take a peek.
The Worship service was very good and we talked about it some. For Sunday school we listened to all of the 2nd Chapter of Luke on the CD., then discussed the chapter for the rest of our time. Mary certainly did not have it easy. She was widowed early and raised several children. We don't know how many because the girls aren't named of course. I think we do tend to forget that she was a real mother raising real children in real hard times. Just because she gave birth to the son of God, she didn't have an easy go of it. We talked about how much she knew of what Jesus would be and how much she knew early on about his death and the resurrection. Of course, we know nothing about her later years and when she died. That part of her life just isn't mentioned in the Bible.
Next Sunday Sue and I will not be there. Bufe is going to lead the class for me and will continue studying Mary.
Two weeks from now we will probably start a study on a new character of the Bible. The class chose "Luke" so I think this will prove to be very interesting.
See you in two weeks. Don

Hi Don
I don't know what you discussed on Sunday but I had a thought when James was saying his brother Jesus wasn't in his right mind sorta to speak. I think his mother was hurt deeply. I know my mother and Mike's mother All they wanted was us all to get along and really show we love each other. They actually would say this. My family is completely torn apart. This happen after my Mom died. I know if she knew there would be such a sadness. Jesus though was innocent and telling nothing more than the truth. It was James that needed to repent and he did. Please give me your ideas about this and any other thing you discussed Sunday. Debbie

We had 11 in attendance Sunday morning. Bufe left very ill as we were starting. He is much better now. We did talk about the time you are speaking about and then nearly everyone there told of similar experiences while raising their own young ones. If I remember right, it was about age two when they developed the ability to disappear in 3 seconds flat!
Tom remembered a message he heard once where the minister thought Mary might have said, " Joesph, we've lost the Son of God!"
We read all the first chapter of Luke, so we got to study a little about Elisabeth's late pregnancy and the birth of John the Baptist and we discussed Mary's stay with her during the last part of her term. I think we will be in this study for some time yet. It was a good Sunday school time. I thought the Worship service was really good and the music couldn't be beat! See you Sunday. Don

Hi Don,
While it's still fresh in your mind could you tell something about what you discussed today and I'll reply back. I got the comment on Mary and raising her family besides Jesus. I was thinking about when Jesus stayed in the I quess you would call it a tabernacle He called it his Father's house how worried she was when she couldn't find him. Now that;s a mother but Joseph was also worried. When we go to the store and Dee will go looking at something else as I'm busy deciding on what I'm going to buy. Look up and panic. Stop what I'm doing and find her now. The sickening feeling in your stomach. I think Mary had that same feeling

I think you are right. We also have to think of Mary, not only as the mother of our Saviour, but the mother in a real family, with real problems. Will will be discussing many angles in class, such as how is Mary feeling when a sibling of Jesus comes as says to the parents something like this, we have to do something about Jesus, He's in town making a fool out of all of us and himself too.
Also, when we think of Jesus on the cross, we need to try to understand what his mother is going through while watching her son die. While the young Jesus was growing up, did she know that her beautiful boy would soon have to die a horrible death to become the true King of Kings and Saviour of the world? We'll search for answers Sunday morning. see you there! Don

I think of Mary having so much faith. To be chosen as the one that would have Jesus but I don't thnk at the time she knew everything that he had to go through.

The gas leak that wasn’t . . .

Image from story

“There was no gas leak,” said Atmos spokesman, Jim Bartling. “There was no danger to anyone at anytime.”
Last week’s event in which it was first thought to have been a gas leak, somewhere in Adrian that shut down natural gas service to customers, turned out to not be a leak at all.
Atmos was doing routine maintenance on the line when a valve locked up in the regulating station. That stopped the flow of gas through the line, resulting in the shutting off of gas to Atmos customers.
When the problem with the frozen valve was fixed, Atmos called in thirty-two employees, some from western Kansas and eastern Missouri, to go house to house and relight the pilot lights on stoves, hot water tanks and furnaces for customers.

City approves purchase of fire truck

The Adrian City Council approved the purchase of a fire truck for the city at its regularly scheduled meeting August 11. The City Council also voted to restore the city taxi’s fare of 35 cents for a one-way trip.
Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Mayor Ray Cusumano called the meeting to order at 7:00. Council members present were Larry Ritter, Mike Lemon, Dennis Kooker, and Bruce Scarborough.
Fire Chief Gary Dizney presented to the City Council a proposal to purchase a new fire truck. Adrian was offered a steep discount on this particular truck because it was ordered by another municipality, but that transaction fell through. Included in the purchase price are ladders and other needed equipment. The fire truck has a 1,000 gallon water tank; this will allow our fire fighters to begin immediately to battle a blaze. The City Council approved the purchase of this fire truck for $175,000. Also approved was the expenditure of $2,000 to enlarge the fire station door.
